The Slope Meter is a crucial tool for anyone in the backcountry. Our new design has an increased viewing range and bright colors indicating the dangers within each slope range, 35 to 40 degrees being the most dangerous and marked as red.
In order to use the Slope Meter properly, you need to set the slope meter parallel to the surface of the ground you want to measure. For more accurate readings, take measurements over a larger distance by easily attaching the device to a ski pole or a ski. There is a small rectangular window cutout towards the base of the Slope Meter for attaching it to a pole. There is also a larger circular cutout for easy holding and/ or attaching the device to a rope or carabiner if you choose not to keep it in the Snow Study Kit pocket. The bottom of the Slope Meter is concave to help create a better fit when attaching it to a ski pole and can also double as a small snow scraper.
