Site Requirements

When choosing your spa site think about privacy for you and your fellow bathers, the distance from your house and the practicality of the site.

The hot tub requires a level, flat, free-draining base which is the same size or larger than the spa & is suitable to hold the weight of the filled hot tub complete with bathers.

An uneven base will potentially cause the spa to flex and may cause irreparable damage which will not be covered under the warranty.

Base options to consider include a 100 mm concrete slab, which may require reinforcement depending on the local ground substrate. You could also site the spa on strengthened (at least 400mm centred bearers) timber decking or paving slabs providing they have been set on a sub-base suitable to support the weight of the tub filled completely with bathers. If in doubt consult a contractor for advice on the construction required.

From years of experience, spas should not be sited on bare earth/grass, as there is a risk of subsidence.

Hot Tubs should never be located on flooring that can be damaged by water being trapped under the tub, splashed over the side of the tub or even the worst-case scenario a leaking tub.

If the hot tub is being sited indoors, in a basement or on a suspended floor - seek the advice of a structural engineer. Ventilation to prevent moisture from affecting your walls and ceiling is vital. Also bear in mind the spa will require emptying every 12 -14 weeks so you will need suitable drainage facilities in order to empty your spa from the drain valve.

Clear access is required for servicing on at least two sides of the spa, but we may require access to all sides in the future, so it is advisable to leave at least 1m clearance around the unit if possible, if this is not possible then it is your responsibility to move the tub into a suitable position prior to an engineer visit if required. Other points to consider are the room required to remove the cover, and the extra room required if you want a cover-lifter fitted which we do recommend.

Electricity Supply

The provision of the electrical supply at the intended location of the tub is the sole responsibility of the homeowner. The electrical installation must be undertaken by a qualified electrician and conform to current regulations.

You will require a sole dedicated final circuit. The electrical supply must be installed such that if either fuse, Miniature Circuit Breaker or RCD trips this will not affect the rest of the home, ie. your precious food in your freezer.

Depending on your spa choice you will require a 13 or 32 Amp supply.

13 amp vs 32 amp Hot Tub?

The key difference between a 13 amp and a 32 amp hot tub lies in their electrical requirements and how that impacts the functionality and installation of the spa.

A 13 amp hot tub, often referred to as a "plug and play" model, is designed to run off a standard household 3-pin plug socket, so you will require an outdoor waterproof plug socket with RCD protection.

This makes it very convenient and straightforward to set up, as it doesn't require any special electrical work – you can simply plug it in and start enjoying your hot tub right away.

Do not  plug in a 13 amp hot tub through an extension lead running from an indoor socket, as extension leads are not secured by steel wire armour and RCDs can be  hazardous when water is present.

A 32 amp hot tub, on the other hand, requires a dedicated 32 amp electrical supply to be installed by a certified electrician.

This involves running an armoured cable to the hot tub and setting up an isolator switch, which adds to the overall installation cost, typically around £250 or more compared to about £100 for a 13 amp setup.

A 32 amp power supply will require an RCD protected cable run to a commando socket sited around 3 metres from your new spa.

The cable size/rating/length of the cable run and location should be determined by a qualified electrician. It is also advisable to use an armoured cable when running externally. We recommend pre-wiring the commando plug to SY Flex cable leaving a 5-7 metre tail. This tail allows us to site your hot tub perfectly. Always speak to your qualified electrician for their recommendation

The minimum voltage should be 220V and the maximum should be no greater than 240V. Voltage drop must be avoided.

Our hot tub installation teams are not electrical contractors and will only connect the tub to a professionally installed electrical supply, that has been tested and certified by a qualified electrician to the latest regulations.

A 13 amp model can only run either the heater or pumps at one time, so the water temperature can drop more quickly during use, particularly on chilly days.

That said, a well-insulated 13 amp hot tub can still provide excellent performance and represents a significant step up from an inflatable spa at a lower upfront cost.

Ultimately, the decision between a 13 amp and 32 amp comes down to weighing the simplicity and affordability of the plug and play 13 amp models against the more robust heating abilities of the 32 amp versions.

Water Supply

The most obvious request is to have a suitable water supply available to fill the spa. A typically sized spa may take 3 hours to fill with a standard hose pipe.

Delivery Access:

Walk the delivery route and consider the following points:

a) Is the ground firm enough to support the weight of the tub and trolley / sled?
b) Are there any raised drain pipes or drain covers or drain pipes that will obstruct the route?
c) Are there any steps or inclines which would impede or prevent access?
d) Look out for tight corners restricted by walls, taps, posts, heater flues or any other structures which will cause an overall narrowing of the route?
e) Is the height on the access route restricted? Look for eaves, gutters or tree branches encroaching on the route height?
f) Are there any walls the tub needs to go over, as we cannot lift a tub over a wall.
g) Can any obstructions be moved, eg, gate, doors fence panels, tap, guttering?
h) If there is no route through your property, will a neighbour allow access via their property?

Note the dimensions of the spa model you've purchased, keeping in mind that it will be transported on its side using a specialized hot tub Spa Sled. As a general guideline, a minimum path width of 950mm is necessary to safely manoeuvre the spa without causing harm to your property or the unit itself.

However, some larger spa models may have dimensions ranging from 920mm to 950mm, necessitating an additional 50mm clearance on each side.

If you anticipate any access constraints, don't hesitate to reach out to our team for personalized assistance and guidance.

Height is another critical factor to consider during delivery, as an extra 250mm should be added to the spa's longest dimension when it's positioned on its side atop the Spa Sled.

For instance, a 2100mm x 2100mm hot tub may stand at an impressive 2350mm tall during transport. To facilitate safe access, it's imperative to remove any obstructions along the delivery path. Additionally, bear in mind that the Spa Sled is a non-flexible trolley requiring ample turning space to navigate effectively.

Steps can pose a significant challenge, as hot tubs are inherently heavy and cumbersome, making them exceptionally difficult to carry up multiple steps. Should your delivery involve navigating stairs, it's essential to enlist the aid of several strong, capable individuals to ensure a safe and successful installation.

Ultimately, as the customer, you are responsible for guaranteeing adequate access for our dedicated delivery team, as outlined in these guidelines.

If you have any doubts or concerns regarding your property's accessibility, we strongly encourage you to contact us in advance. Adequate access also entails thorough preparation of the delivery site, such as clearing away gravel to minimize the risk of debris entering the Spa Sled and potentially scratching your new hot tub's surface.

PLEASE NOTE: Should the hot tub not be able to be delivered, a kerbside delivery will be provided after which an alternative route or the method will need to be considered, like a crane lift for example (budget cost £500-700) If this cannot be organised & you cannot take the tub on this day, you will incur the cost of the delivery team to the kerbside.

Deliveries Requiring Lifting Equipment

Depending on the access to your property and the specific model of hot tub or swim spa you have purchased, a specialized delivery method using a Crane/Hiab may be necessary.

A Crane/Hiab is a hydraulic lifting system mounted on a truck that can safely lift and manoeuvre heavy objects like hot tubs over obstacles and into tight spaces.

For all swim spa deliveries, a Crane/Hiab is mandatory due to their substantial size and weight. However, even for smaller hot tub models, difficult access points like narrow gates, low-hanging trees, or uneven terrain may require the use of a Crane/Hiab for safe and precise placement.

It's important to note that the cost of Crane/Hiab services is not included in standard delivery fees and must be arranged separately through a reputable external company. To streamline the process, the hot tub delivery team will work closely with you to coordinate the delivery date and time to align with the availability of your chosen crane company. This collaboration ensures that your new hot tub or swim spa arrives and is installed efficiently with minimal disruption to your schedule.

During the lifting and positioning process, full liability for the safety of the crew, equipment, delivered item, and surrounding property transfers to the operator of the lifting equipment. Any damage that may occur to the item being delivered or to the delivery site, such as cracks, scratches or structural damage, are the sole responsibility of the designated lift operator. It is therefore imperative to contract an experienced, licensed, and insured professional with the right equipment to handle the specific lifting needs of the delivery, minimizing potential risks and liabilities.

If any questions or concerns arise throughout the process, the knowledgeable customer service team is readily available to offer support and advice, ensuring that your hot tub delivery experience is as seamless and stress-free as possible.

Summary

By adhering to these recommendations and maintaining open communication with our team, you can look forward to a seamless and stress-free delivery experience, allowing you to enjoy the luxurious benefits of your new hot tub spa without delay.
