Warm swimming pool and spa water provide the perfect conditions for bacterial growth. As bacteria begins to form on surfaces, in pipework and balance tanks, biofilm can start to form. Biofilm is extremely resistant to chlorine and usually can’t be burnt off with your daily sanitisers, even shock treating won’t remove hard formed biofilms.
Biofilm begins with a small number of bacteria that attach themselves to a solid surface. As the bacteria continues to aggregate on the surface, they begin to change and develop into a complex colony protected by a layer of slime – this sticky layer is the biofilm.
If left untreated, in addition to making the water potentially unsafe for bathers, biofilm can make the water cloudy or foamy and it may also cause an unpleasant odour.
Blue Horizons Commercial Super Cleanse Tablets, when added to water, produce chlorine dioxide, a highly effective cleaning agent that is strong enough to penetrate the toughest of biofilms and helps remove the bacteria.
Other Applications
To clean a biofilm covered surface such as floatation aids, covers, channel grates or around the pool side and in changing areas, use the following dose rate:
